Volunteer Positions at Jubilee Jobs
Jubilee Jobs welcomes support from volunteers. Our program expanded rapidly in 2005, so our job counselors greatly appreciate volunteer assistance. Volunteers work in a number of areas:
- Interview Workshops: These workshops prepare applicants for upcoming job interviews. The leader guides applicants though a 90-minute workshop outlining the "dos" and "don'ts" of interviewing, while giving them ample time to practice. (Meets on Thursdays)
- Checking References: Volunteers make phone calls to check previous employment references to ascertain clients' past work history and provide accurate information for job placements.
- Follow-up Phone Calls: This involves calling previously placed applicants to confirm that they are still in jobs, update their news, invite them to special events and offer encouragement. We also periodically call employers to determine applicant performance on the job.
- Creating Resumes with Applicants: For those applicants without resumes, we work one-on-one with them to create their resumes on the computer. (Tuesday through Thursday)
- Conflict Resolution Workshops: This workshop helps applicants understand the issues and situations they may face as they begin a new job. The leader encourages discussion and problem solving, while providing strategies to help applicants successfully deal with on-the-job problems. (Meets on Fridays)
- Mentors: Volunteers meet once a month with applicants who are moving from initial job placement into career jobs to offer advice and encouragement.
- Women’s Committee: This committee meets several times a year to plan and organize our annual fundraising dinner.
- Other positions possible depending on volunteer's skills and interests.
